A record that keeps getting broken.

Ella Douglas set the Louisiana dog snapper record with this 25.80-lb fish in October 2021. It went on to win the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association’s 2022 Rod & Reel Fish of the Year.

The record has moved since. Justin Kennan’s fish now ranks No. 2, and in June 2026 Jason Diver landed a 30.97-lb dog snapper at the Garden Banks on the same DTB trip that produced the state-record cubera and black grouper. Ella’s fish is now No. 3.
